Project One Background

At UCSF, we are building an enterprise-wide solution to modernize and streamline our operations across all of UCSF.

Our new system will provide integrated solutions for Human Resources, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Research Grants Management, and a Student Information System.

At a fundamental level, Project One supports our expansive and diverse UCSF community as we align and work together to advance the future of work at UCSF.

How We Got Here

The focused work to determine how best to move from PeopleSoft and other disparate systems to a new singular enterprise system began in 2023 with a year-long comprehensive review of our current administrative systems across UCSF Health and UCSF Campus. This project was called Administrative Systems Assessment (ASA).

The ASA project identified a need for foundational work before beginning an implementation project for a new ERP system. This led to a series of PRE-ERP Projects.

Administrative Systems Assessment

In 2023, a project team with involvement across the UCSF Enterprise assessed our current systems and determined the course of action to recommend moving to a cloud-based ERP system.  Team accomplishments included:

  1. Completed current state assessments and future state opportunity identification.

  2. Identified current IT systems for replacement.

  3. Set focus for several preliminary projects necessary to set the groundwork for a complete ERP business transformation project.

  4. Completed a formal and robust RFP (request for proposal) process including Day-in-the-life demo days and vendor demos.

  5. Evaluated Implementation Partner Firms with experience with ERP projects for Higher Education & Health Care institutions.

PRE-ERP Projects

From January through July 2024 UCSF worked with Deloitte to complete a series of projects aimed to further clarify our current state and future recommendations in several domains slotted for the new ERP System.

  1. Human Resources

  2. Finance

  3. Supply Chain

  4. Grants Management

The Deloitte team also worked with UCSF on a separate project focused on our current Student Information System (SIS) aimed at business transformation.

The goal is to develop recommendations for a new Student Information System integrated with the new ERP system.
