What is Human Capital Management (HCM) for Project One?
As part of Project One, UCSF is launching a new Human Capital Management (HCM) solution, enabled by Oracle Cloud. An HCM solution is an integrated suite of technologies that provides a simplified experience for teammates throughout their career journey, from the moment they apply for a position to when they depart the organization.
Why Are We Modernizing Our Teammate Experience?
UCSF uses a complex web of over 40 systems and applications to manage the teammate experience at UCSF, resulting in a variety of manual workarounds and handoffs to achieve process objectives. Through Project One, we aim to improve the overall experience throughout the career journey by enabling direct access to insights and streamlining administrative processes.

Teammates will have direct access to certain processes to complete their own transactions.

The new Oracle Cloud solution will grant access to real-time information and insights for more effective reporting and decision-making

Our new processes with Oracle Cloud will streamline administrative processes so teammates can spend more time focusing on other strategic initiatives.
Parts of the Teammate Experience That Will Be Affected
Several processes that teammates may use during their career journey at UCSF will be affected by this transformation. This may include their experience with:
Recruiting
Onboarding
Viewing/Updating Personal Information (e.g., address)
Performance Management and Career Development
Compensation
Leaves of Absence
Separations

As the project progresses, more information will be shared about the specific changes coming to each of these areas.
How We Have Prepared for This Implementation
To prepare us for this transformation, the Project One team has started to engage with leaders and representatives within HR, as well as teammates and managers from across the UCSF ecosystem. The goal of these engagements is to gather a variety of diverse insights and views aimed at better understanding current processes and opportunities for improvement in the new solution. These initial engagements have included holding feedback sessions, facilitating focus groups to gather insights on the current talent acquisition and performance management processes, and completing initial process designs for those areas.
Timeline
The HCM implementation is planned to go live in April 2026 for the UCSF enterprise (UCSF Campus and UCSF Health). Between now and April 2026, the Project One team will be completing a robust set of activities to design, build, test, and launch the new solution.
Recently, the Project One team completed a series of design workshops where UCSF subject matter experts (SMEs) worked with the delivery team to design the functionality and processes that will be part of the HCM solution. With the Design phase now complete, the project will enter the Deliver phase. This phase is focused on building and testing the new HCM solution in iterative cycles prior to go-live.
The broader UCSF community can expect to learn more about the solution and how to use it as we get closer to the go-live date.

How Will This Transformation Affect UCPath?
UCPath will remain the primary system for payroll and benefits-related information. The new Oracle Cloud HCM solution will integrate with UCPath to promote a more cohesive teammate experience. More details about the connection between Oracle Cloud and UCPath will be shared in the future.
